St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Episcopal Church at Cornell are honored to host this year’s Ecumenical Easter Vigil, and to invite our partners from across Ithaca and the surrounding communities to join us — in person or online — for this most sacred night of the Christian year.
The Easter Vigil is unlike any other service. In one sweeping evening, we hear some of the greatest stories of our faith — creation and deliverance, promise and hope, fire and water, death and new life. As these ancient stories are proclaimed, we are reminded that they are not simply stories of the past. They are our story. They speak to the fullness of human life — to suffering and celebration, longing and praise — and to God’s faithful presence through it all.
We will begin in darkness, kindle a new fire, and light the Christ candle. We will gather at the waters of baptism, remembering that God brings us through night into dawn, through death into life.
All are welcome. Come and listen. Come and remember. Come and rejoice in the light that no darkness can overcome.
Our services of worship and praise following the Evangelical Lutheran Worship liturgies and music. As a Reconciling in Christ Congregation, the people of St. Luke Lutheran Church are called by God to be a community of Christians, a part of the body of Christ. Because we believe we are one in God’s eyes, we welcome the mix of ages, races, gender identities, physical and mental capabilities, and sexual orientations with which God’s children are blessed. Everyone is invited to share in God’s grace.
