The Singing Community
Congregational song is of paramount importance in the Lutheran tradition,
and is alive and well at St. Luke. The wide-ranging resources of the new
Evangelical Lutheran Worship are utilized to keep the great hymnody of the
ages alive, as well as to vary the settings of the liturgy.

Choir
The choir sings most Sundays during the academic year, as well as for
other liturgical functions. They lead the psalm and offer an anthem, as
well as an occasional communion motet. The approximately 30 members of the
choir represent the diversity of the congregation of St. Luke. New members
are always welcome. Rehearsals are at 9:15 am Sundays for the 10:45
service, with additional monthly rehearsals on Thursday night. Their
repertoire draws on many eras of sacred music, from chant and the
Renaissance to the present day. Their annual Advent Lessons and Carols
service is a highlight of the pre-Christmas season. The fall
anthem list is below.

St. Luke Sinfonia
Twice a year the twenty or so instrumentalists of St.
Luke join together to play for the Sunday morning service. In addition, many of
them also play on other occasions throughout the church year.

rich resources of the Ithaca musical community for various occasions throughout
the year.

Organ
The church's first organ, E. M. Skinner opus 460, was
installed in 1924 at the front of the church behind a row of non-speaking
pipes, which remain today. In 1971, the current organ by Gress-Miles was
installed in the rear gallery, replacing the Skinner. It was tonally refinished
in 1982 by C. L. Mowers Pipe Organs. For a complete specification, click
here.
The church has also recently obtained an Ithaca Organ
Company Reed Organ, likely built in the 1880s, which serves for smaller
services and occasional use in Sunday services.
